1938 TALBOT-LAGO T150C 'LAGO SPÉCIALE' CABRIOLET Coachwork to a design by Figoni

RARE, ICONIC TALBOT-LAGO T150 C TO STAR AT BONHAMS' AMELIA ISLAND AUCTION
Stunning French Art Deco cabriolet is a masterpiece of design

New York – Few names elicit the excitement of the glorious interwar period of automotive design as Talbot-Lago. Similar to Bugatti, the French manufacturer guided by a gifted Italian is legendary for its design, style, opulence and sporting prowess. So it's with great pleasure that Bonhams announces a very special 1938 Talbot-Lago T150 Cabriolet to be offered at its Amelia Island auction next month.

Just one of less than 51 produced, this incredible luxury sports car – chassis number 90039 – is known as a Lago Spécial. Mechanically identical to the fabled flagship Super Sports model, the Spécial was intended to accommodate more sumptuous bodywork. With an added weight difference of only 130 kg (286 lbs.), the result was an opulent motorcar with superior acceleration and impressive handling.

This dashing T150 C, previously owned by racer Briggs Cunningham, collector Peter Mullin and hotelier Bill Marriott, has just emerged from a professional and exacting "frame off" restoration. Everything, from the powerful six-cylinder motor to the buttery soft Hermès-like upholstery and matching luggage, has been masterfully attended to by European craftsmen. Comprehensive and fully documented, the expert and period-correct restoration has resulted in what surely must be one of the most beautiful and desirable – not to mention usable – pre-war motorcars in the world.

Whether competing in the next Mille Miglia or world-class concours d'elegance, or simply enjoyed on sunny country lanes, this impressive Talbot-Lago represents the best of 1930s motoring. And for many an enthusiast collector, few automotive creations can compare.
