STANLEY WANLASS (B. 1941) 'NEW YORK TO PARIS' A BRONZE SCULPTURE of a 1907 Thomas Flyer, winner of the New York to Paris race in 1908, inscribed "Wanlass 82", on a walnut base, 42cm high x 76cm wide

Stanley Wanlass is widely regarded as the modern day Frederick Remington. As renowned for his heroic historical monuments as for his automotive bronze sculptures, Wanlass created this magnificent tribute to America's pioneering spirit in a limited edition of just 30 signed and numbered examples.

New York to Paris is a massive, finely detailed bronze sculpture that depicts the legendary Thomas Flyer automobile and its crew winning the fabled 13,000 mile “Great Race” of 1907 between New York and Paris. Priced at an impressive $27,500 each in 1982, the entire edition sold out in just 11 months, principally to museums and major private and institutional collections.

Examples of New York to Paris have consequently appeared very infrequently on the secondary market; therefore, the bronze figure offered here, number 12 of 30, represents a rare opportunity to acquire a known masterpiece of automobile sculpture.
